On May 14, 19 civil society organizations signed a statement regarding the pre-election period and the election campaign. In the statement they expressed concern with violations of freedom of press and access to the mass media, freedom of assembly and association, the right to privacy, violence and the murder attempts during and before the election period, as well as widespread corruption and the unlawful use of administrative resources.

Methods and practices used in the electoral fight have created an atmosphere of fear, suspicion and personal insecurity. The concern expressed in the statement is based on observations and the findings of monitoring carried out throughout the year by the understated organizations.
