A candlelight vigil on the occasion of the Army Day
At 6:30 pm on January 28, 2012 on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Armed forces in Armenia a candlelight vigil was held in Yerevan's center with the participation of the parents of servicemen deceased in non-combat situations in the army, activists of "The Army in Reality" civic initiative, as well as many citizens concerned with the problems of the army. They staged a silent march with candle lights, the portraits of the deceased soldiers, and posters from Square of Liberty through Northern Avenue to Republic Square.
The marchers hold posters that read: "We wouldn't be 20 years old," "Our power is in the absence of violence", "Motherland, protect your Defenders!" The majority of the participants in vigil were the relatives of the deceased servicemen who lost their lives over the past several years and demanded fair trial of the killed servicemen. They had one desire ? let no serviceman be killed henceforth."
