In her interview to "A1+", Sona Ayvazyan, the Chair of Transparency International Anti-corruption Center (TIAC) noted that TIAC conducted a study in the mining sector, assisted by the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation, a project of the German Marshall Fund, and exposed numerous gaps. The organization attempted to receive data from official sources on metal-ore mines in Armenia, including their founders, the environmental-social programs carried out by them and the payments.

TIAC made inquiries about 27 mines, and received information by only three. The documents stored in state structures were rather inaccurate. For instance, some appendices stipulating mining conditions, environmental impact assessments that should serve a base for granting or not granting licenses were missing in those documents. The documents also incorporated data explicitly displaying that some officials were involved in mining business.
