Among delegation members from Armenia, representing NGOs and parties involved in elections monitoring and electoral reforms, Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Vice Chair of Transparency International Anti-corruption Center visited the Warsaw-based European Institute for Democracy (EID) from November 16 to 22, 2008. The study tour, organized by Academy for International Development and International Foundation for Electoral Systems, equiped participants with the knowledge, skills and information necessary to reform the electoral legislation framework on political party and campaign financing, using experience of Poland.

The event provided detailed information on the following aspects of party and campaign financing: rules and mechanisms for preventing and curbing corruption in the financing of political parties and electoral campaigns; experiences on institutional and regulatory frameworks for political party financing; institutions that control public funding to political parties and electoral campaigns. Upon return, the participants will prepare recommendations for changes in the Electoral Code of Armenia.

The EID is a nonpartisan, nongovernmental foundation formed in Warsaw in 1998 to support democratic institutions in Poland and the surrounding former Eastern bloc countries.
