Discussion to develop an anti-corruption strategy for Armenia
On 7 December 2012, Sona Ayvazyan, Deputy Director of Transparency International Anti-corruption Center attended and addressed a roundtable discussion dedicated to the development of the framework of anti-corruption actions in Armenia, hosted by the EU Advisory Group. Representatives of civil society, international organizations and state officials debated the options for developing future strategies and sought a consensus on how Armenia could proceed over the next months and years.
During the round table, participants discussed the best practices related to the analysis of the causes of corruption, strategy formulation and measures to strengthen the anti-corruption framework. They focused on the EU perspective on anti-corruption framework and civil society participation in the strategy formation.
The EU expert presented an outline of a future policy paper on a review of the current framework in Armenia, identifying best practices in developing an anti-corruption strategy. The policy paper set out issues on the development of anti-corruption strategies and looked at the international best practice concerning the design of anti-corruption strategies. Moreover, it would consider the importance of the wider political context during the development of a strategy. The paper would be presented during a public event in 2013.
Ambassador Traian Hristea, Head of the EU Delegation, Patrice Coeur-Bizot, UNDP Resident Representative ad interim, Georgi Kutoyan from Presidential Administration, representatives from Ethics Commission and Armenian Young Lawyers Association also addressed the discussion.
