On November 13, 2009, Amalia Kostanyan, Chairwoman and Sona Ayvazyan, Board Member of Transparency International Anti-corruption Center participated in Presentation of the Report on "Monitoring of the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly in Armenia" organized by Helsinki Committee of Armenia. They were among the 23 monitoring group members who conducted 110 observations from September 26, 2008 to June 30, 2009, mostly in the city of Yerevan. Amalia Kostanyan also provided advice and recommendations in drafting the report. The project was implemented by Helsinki Committee of Armenia with the support of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

During the event representatives of international organizations, NGOs, foreign and local experts shared their views on monitoring the freedom of assembly. Analysis of the legislation, review of documents and observation were used to achieve that goal.

The monitoring also covered use of force and violence. However, in the opinion of Amalia Kostanyan it did not fully cover all the instances of violence that they had observed not only as monitors but also as citizens. The situation of the freedom of peaceful assembly was sad in Armenia and the authorities were so weak that they were afraid of the people's protests and dissidence.
