Presentation of the "Political Parties and Finances in Armenia" Public Oversight Guidebook
Transparency International Anticorruption Center (TIAC), in collaboration with the Armenian office of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), is concluding the Supporting Safeguards of Democracy in Armenia project, aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in party financing.
We are pleased to announce that, as part of this joint initiative, the "Political Parties and Finances in Armenia" public oversight guidebook has been developed, and its presentation took place on September 10 in Yerevan. The event was opened with remarks by TIAC Executive Director Sona Ayvazyan and IFES Armenia Director Jérôme Leyraud.
The presentation was attended by representatives from Armenia's political parties, government institutions, and civil society organizations.
TIAC Program Specialist Tigran Mughnetsyan provided an overview of the development process of the "Political Parties and Finances in Armenia" guidebook. Following this, Hasmik Tigranyan, the Political Finance Component Manager and Legal Advisor at IFES, presented the "Free Vote: A Global Guide for Civil Monitoring of Campaign Finance," authored by Dr. Magnus Ohman, Director of IFES’ Regional Europe Office and Senior Political Finance Advisor. The guide has recently been translated into Armenian.
These guides are designed to support civil society organizations, media representatives, and researchers interested in political processes in Armenia in conducting public oversight of party finances and election campaigns.
The presentations were followed by a discussion and Q&A session. The "Political Parties and Finances in Armenia" public oversight guidebook will soon be available on the TIAC website.
This initiative was part of the Supporting Safeguards Democracy in Armenia (SSDA) project funded by UK International Development from the UK Government and implemented by IFES.
