On November 2, Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center (TIAC) organized a public discussion of the report draft on "Assessment of the Oversight Function of the National Assembly of RA ".

The executive director of TIAC, Sona Ayvazyan, made the opening speech presenting the Strengthening Accountability Networks among Civil Society (SANCUS) project, within the framework of which the public discussion was organized. In her speech, Sona Ayvazyan emphasized the importance of the oversight function and the difficulties of its implementation, expressing hope that the report will have an important place in the working activities of the deputies.

Afterwards, the SANCUS project manager Gayane Baghdasaryan, presented the report, referring to the main obstacles of parliamentary oversight, the lack of ethics code and sanctions, the tools of parliamentary oversight, and their gaps. Reference was also made to the issues of oversight implementation for opposition MPs, gaps in financial and post-legislative scrutiny, as well as public-parliament connection.

At the end of the event, the key recommendations were presented, after which deputies, representatives of a number of state bodies, as well as representatives of sectoral NGOs and international organizations came up with recommendations and considerations for the activities of the standing committees, the issues of independence of the leadership of independent bodies, the institution of written and oral issues, post-constitutional control, etc..
