Anahit Khachatryan's father-in-law possessed a parcel of land measuring over 1,500 square meters in Yerevan's 52 Aghbyur Serob Street ever since 1960s. Due to her and her family members' hard work the barren land turned into an orchard where they built a house. Since 2003 Khachatryan's family applied to competent government bodies with a request to privatize the land, however the issue remained unsettled because of the obstacles caused by the corrupt bureaucratic system. 4 years later, on November 23, Khachatryan's family managed to privatize some part of the land of 466 square meters and the house (her father-in-law passed away by then). The remaining larger part of the land was sold by Yerevan mayor via direct sale to a certain Khachik Davtyan, a Defense Ministry employee, who later resold it to Paytgrig LLC.

Meanwhile on July 29, 2007 the orchard was illegally logged, the property was captured and destroyed. It was only 6 months later, on January 23, 2009 that a criminal case was opened regarding the crime. Though she had repeatedly complained to the pre-trail investigation bodies, Anahit Khachatryan was involved in the case as witness and not as victim. Instead, it was the Ecological Inspectorate of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia that was recognized as victim.

With the support of AAC, Mrs. Khachatryan complained Military Prosecutor's Office to be recognized as victim. Her complain was declined, and the dismissal was appealed to Kanaker-Zeytun community common jurisdiction court. As a result of the trial, with AAC lawyer acting as the representative of the witness, the court made a decision on May 19, 2009 regarding the case to recognize A. Khachatryan as victim.

Mrs. Khachatryan, being recognized as victim is enabled to get introduced with materials of the criminal case (2 volumes, about 400 pages) and become an active actor in the court trial. It is expected that consequently, such development will contribute to further proceeding of the suspended case, and AAC will get a better opportunity to support the settlement of the citizen's problem.
