A spring anticorruption camp was organized from March 1 to 4, 2018 in Aghveran with the participation of 32 youth from Civic Youth Centers. The participants acquired knowledge on corruption and fighting it and were given opportunities to implement their ideas in practice to achieve legislative and behavioral changes.

An orientation meeting took place on March 1. During the meeting the organizers, Sona Ayvazyan, TIAC Executive Director and Levon Barseghyan, President of the Board of Journalists’ Club “Asparez” introduced the agenda to the camp participants.

The camp participants underwent trainings.They also played intellectual games. During the first day Avetik Ishkhanyan, Chairman of Armenian Helsinki Committee presented human rights and fundamental freedoms and political rights. TIAC Expert addressed corruption and fight against it, examining the types of corruption, its causes and consequences, and how corruption perception is assessed, reflecting on national integrity system. Within the scope of the camp the participants played a political-civic game coordinated by Tatevik Barseghyan.
The trainees were introduced with the skills to deal with legal acts, anticorruption legislation, whistleblowing and whistleblowers by public policy Expert Liana Ghaltaghchyan. The participants got acquainted with conflict of interest, ethics, asset and income declarations and law enforcement practice by TIAC Legal Adviser Heriknaz Tigranyan.

Levon Barseghyan explained to them Law on Freedom of Information, the institute of community council. The participants also gained knowledge about local government bodies, public participation and oversight.

The trainees also addressed and discussed review mechanisms and monitoring, methods, data collection methods, budget monitoring and public journalism. The topics were respectively presented by Diana Ter-Stepanyaan, TIAC Research Coordinator, Artak Kyurumyan, TIAC Expert and Seda Muradyan, co-founder of Public Journalism Club.

The camp was organized within the framework of USAID funded “Engaged Citizenry for Responsible Governance” project, implemented by TIAC and consortium partner organizations.
