Transparency International Anticorruption Center (TIAC), together with Yerevan Protection Initiatives United, “SOS Afrikyan Club Building” civic initiative representatives and a number of NGOs held a free format discussion of stakeholders on the problems of protection of Yerevan's historical and cultural monuments. The representatives of the Victims of State Needs, TIAC, “Tsirani” NGOs came up with their observations on the destruction of historical-cultural monuments, while the representatives of state institutions presented their views on the perspectives of their respective institutions. Hot discussion was held in tackling the problem.

TIAC Deputy Director Sona Ayvazyan mentioned that the event was held slightly late regarding the problem of Afrikyan house, however Afrikyan house was not the only problem. Acute problems raised and exacerbated in Yerevan city in 2000 when Yerevan “ceased to have” historical and cultural monuments subject to protection and for 4 years, until the adoption of RA Government Decision N1616-N of 7 October 2004 “On Approving the State List of Immovable Historical and Cultural Monuments of Yerevan City” the authorities were free to damage and destroy at least 26 monument-buildings on the places of construction.

The participants in the discussion failed to find a common solution, however the event enabled the professionals and representatives of state institutions to voice their opinions on measures that will lead to progress.
