1in.am: "Armenia has taken the wrong path"
In an interview to 1in.am Armenian News and Analyses online Sona Ayvazyan, Deputy Director of Transparency International Anticorruption Center noted, “After September 3, 2013 the situation was really changed and people’s opinions differed. Civil society seemed unanimous hitherto and struggled for the enforcement of democratic values and human rights. The idea of “sovereignty” was subsequently added after September 3, giving rise to “Russianness” and “anti-Russianness” discourse. She added that prior to September 3 we knew where the country was striving for, its development orientation. Now we came to understand that we were going the wrong way.
“We are going to join the club of non-democratic governments and authoritarian regimes in hastened steps, which is rather disappointing,” she went on to say.
To the question why no joint platform was formed among the people not sharing that idea Sona Ayvazyan replied that the idea of reaching one joint platform was not developed yet.
“Discussions are underway as to what to do at the moment in various levels and various groups. There is indeed willingness to do something by various groups. On the other hand there is a concern on wasting time. I do not feel yet that we have arrived at the solution to the problem. I am afraid that we are still far from being unanimous and turning into a single power,” Sona Ayvazyan mentioned.
She noted that on the one hand, unfortunately, after September 3 Armenia seemed not to be a factor as a state and was not worth attention. However in some cases it seemed to be of interest. Even EU member counties take different approach to the issue and there is no consensus.
