April 8, 2019 - The presentation of the Final report on observation mission on 2018 Snap Parliamentary Elections in Armenia was held on April 8 within the framework of “Building Capacities for Observation and Promoting the Integrity of Parliamentary Elections in Armenia” project funded by the European Union. Sona Ayvazyan, Executive Director of Transparency International Anticorruption Center (TIAC), Gregory Tsouris, Deputy Head of Cooperation Section, Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, Adam Stefan, Deputy Director, Sustainable Development Office, USAID/Armenia, Larisa Minasyan, Executive Director, Open Society Foundations-Armenia, Levon Barseghyan, President of Journalists’ Club “Asparez” Board etc. delivered opening remarks during the event.

The discussion was carried out within the framework of “Akanates” observation mission with the financial support by the European Union, US Agency for International Development, National Democratic Institute, National Endowment for Democracy, and Open Society Foundations - Armenia. The final report of long-term and short-term Observation Mission of 2018 Snap Parliamentary Elections in Armenia, the pre-election period and Election Day observation, complaint process based on registered violations, as well as the results of electronic monitoring of voting numbers were presented during the event.

According to the speakers 2018 elections were held in an atmosphere of free, competitive and peaceful electoral contest, which essentially differed from the national elections held in previous years. Nevertheless, a few issues were identified during the observation, based on which a number of recommendations were presented by the mission in order to improve the electoral legislation, as well as the practice and approaches to organization and conduct of elections.

The presentation was followed by exchange of thoughts and discussion on the issues and recommendations raised in the report, as well as further needs and priorities for the improvement of electoral processes.
