The current situation of human rights in Armenia was discussed on Wednesday, October 10 at a press conference held in Golden Tulip Yerevan Hotel by Amalia Kostanyan, CRD/TI Armenia Chairwoman, Avetik Ishkhanyan, Chairman of Armenian Helsinki Committee and Artur Sakunts, Head of Vanadzor Branch of Helsinki Citizen's Assembly. The speakers expressed concern on decline of freedom of speech in the past five years and claimed lack of human rights protection in the country.

Addressing media Ishkhanyan focused on the latest three-color map published by Freedom House where Armenia was painted in purple, meaning that the country lacked freedom of press. It was already several years that Armenia had been considered a semi-consolidated authoritarian regime in terms of its government, political and civil freedoms, opined Amalia Kostayan. Artur Sakunts dwelt on poor crime detection in the Armenian military. The speakers then answered the journalists' questions.
