Nine out of Ten Citizens of Armenia Consider Corruption as a Problem or a Big Problem in Armenia

On January 31, 2007 the presentation of "2006 Corruption Perception in Armenia" publication on the nationwide survey was held in the Congress Hotel in Yerevan. It was attended by representatives of state institutions, NGOs, international organizations and mass media outlets.
The survey was carried out in August 2006 by the Center for Regional Development/Transparency International Armenia (CRD/TI Armenia) with the support of the UNDP Armenia Office.

The event was opened with welcome greetings from Consuelo Vidal, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, Ambassador Vladimir Pryakhin, Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Bojana Urumova, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to Armenia and Anna Aghadjanyan, Head of the Human Rights' Division of the Department on International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. The results of the study were presented by Amalia Kostanyan, Chairwoman of CRD/TI Armenia. According to them, 9 out of 10 citizens of Armenia consider corruption as a problem or a big problem in Armenia. Meanwhile, 9 out of 10 respondents pointed to the necessity to ensure free and fair elections as a solution aimed at the improvement of the situation.
