Meeting of the Armenian participants of EaP CSF
On September 13 Sona Ayvazyan, Chair and Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Executive Director of Transparency International Anti-corruption Center took part in the subsequent meeting of the Armenian participants of Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forums. During the meeting, the representatives of human rights, media support, anti-corruption and environmental non-governmental organizations discussed civil society perspectives on the progress made in the implementation of the Eastern Partnership.
In the opinion of the meeting participants, commitments to reforms within the scope of interaction with the European Union in the previous years were for the most part implemented in a formal way by the Armenian authorities.
Varuzhan Hoktanyan presented perspectives related with anti-corruption policy and emphasized that only few changes were made in fighting corruption and they were mostly of a legislative nature. Particularly, Law on Public Service was adopted in June, which will come into force on January 1, 2012. It contains provisions that can entail serious changes, should they be followed by the next step - enforcement of the law.
