Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Project Director of Transparency International Anticorruption Center (TIAC) participated in a workshop "The role of data for clean contracting: How can better access to and use of data help end corruption?” held in Berlin, Germany on November 21-22, 2016. The project was implemented by Transparency International and the event was co funded by the European Union.

The workshop addressed the following objectives:

  • get a clear understanding of what open data is, what forms it has taken to date and why it matters in the fight against corruption in public procurement;
  • how has open data been used in different countries to prevent, detect, investigate and prosecute corruption in public procurement and what are the remaining gaps;
  • continue to engage with and discuss the opportunities and challenges for increased use of open data for great anti-corruption in procurement.
