On April 29, 2016 Economic Journalists’ Club with the support of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung organized a meeting with Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Executive Director of Transparency International Anticorruption Center and MP Mikayel Melkumyan. This meeting was covered by Aravot in its report. According to Hoktanyan corruption is not eradicated since monopolies, are not eradicated, convergence of business and political elites and breaking the balance among the three branches of authority, in particular lack of judicial independence.

In Hoktanyan’s opinion Corruption Perceptions Index has not changed in Armenia since 2003. Armenia’s data are the best in Eurasia Economic Union countries. However it does not give occasion for pride. He brought the example of the neighboring Georgia, which was among the most corrupt 5 countries but currently this country is in far better state compared with Armenia. Varuzhan Hoktanyan said that the most corrupt sector in Armenia is single source procurement, defense and other sectors.
