On June 5, World Environment Day 2008, TIAC executive director Sona Ayvazyan, together with representatives of a number of ecological non governmental organizations, held a press conference to share their concerns on ecological situation in Armenia and its development trends. The Environmental Public Alliance, comprised of 35 NGOs, called the authorities and the public to pay serious attention to the negative processes and stop the destructive trends unless the whole country is "turned into an environmental disaster area."

Armenia does not pursue adequate ecological policy, moreover, ecological problems multiply. The problem of Lake Sevan, logging and destruction of forests in the country were mentioned among urgent environmental issues. Logging has a negative impact on the climate and water resources, which causes soil degradation and extinction of biodiversity.
