Why do air companies leave Armenia but the air tickets do not become cheaper?
Some international air companies have stopped their flights to and from Armenia recently. Among the airlines that have recently announced about their leaving the Armenian aviation market are Czech Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines. In his interview to lragir.am Artak Manukyan, Economist and Expert of Transparency International Anticorruption Center mentioned that the air tickets from Armenia to Europe are on average about 150 Euro more expensive than those from Georgia to Europe. In the opinion of the Expert, “open skies” policy is not fulfilled in Armenia. Though the Armenian legislation adopted best European experience the institutions that carry out the work fall short of European standards. “Therefore such laws deteriorate the state. Open skies policy is a good policy as such but for it to operate one should work hard. By simply drafting a law the institutes would not develop.
