In Bangkok, Thailand Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Executive Director of Transparency International Anti-corruption Center participated in Transparency International (TI), the global anti-corruption organization's Europe and Central Asia Regional Meeting and TI Annual Membership Meeting from November 7 to 9, 2010. The event brought together delegates from more than 100 TI national chapters and individual members of TI.

The meeting endorsed TI Strategy 2015. The Strategy will guide the action of the entire TI Movement for the period 2011 to 2015, identifying and promoting the areas of common focus while recognizing and strengthening the diversity of the Movement. A five-year Implementation Plan developed for the secretariat will supplement the Strategy, outlining what needs to be done, by whom, in what timeframe and within what budget.

The delegates also elected new members to the Board of Directors and to the Membership Accreditation Committee.

TI adopted a declaration, calling on governments to act decisively for the repatriation of stolen assets and the management of frozen assets. The TI members called on Group of 20 Summit in Seoul, South Korea convened from November 11 to 12, 2010, to address those issues without delay. The Bangkok Declaration, which was adopted unanimously, demanded governments' quick response to requests for provision of information to move forward stolen and frozen asset cases.

That declaration was one of three resolutions approved by TI delegates at the conclusion of the organization's annual membership meeting in Bangkok. Delegates voted to call on the Russian law enforcement authorities to protect press freedom and civil society and to investigate all attacks on journalists and activists and prevent future attacks.

The third resolution TI voted for referred to establishment of an award in the name of Amalia Kostanyan, recognizing excellence within the TI community. The information about the award is reflected in the next news item.
