Transparency International Anticorruption Center (TIAC) is ready to be an observer but will not participate in the work of the Anticorruption Council, which is in the development process. In his interview to Radio Liberty Varuzhan Hoktanyan, TIAC Executive Director clarified that TIAC was not planning to participate, being convinced for years that there has been no political will to fight corruption. “The issue here is in the following. If Anticorruption Council is an advisory body first of all there should be political will and public consensus, i.e. consensus within the society implying serious actions. And the actions should be large-scale. There must be dialogue involving various strata of the society. I doubt whether there is such dialogue.”

In Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index 2014 Armenia shares 94-99th places in the ranking table among 175 countries along with Egypt, Colombia, Gabon and Liberia. “Armenia’s low CPI score attests that corruption seriously affects the country’s development,” said Hoktanyan.
