Debate “Human rights in Armenia: assessment of 2014”
A debate “Human rights in Armenia: assessment of 2014” was held on December 10, 2014, Human Rights Day, which was broadcast on “A1+” TV via live stream. Among the participants in the debate was Sona Ayvazyan, Deputy Director of Transparency International Anti-corruption Center. The speakers summed up the year and addressed human rights violations in 2014. In the opinion of Sona Ayvazyan the situation with human rights in the country remained stably bad. All the NGOs testified that draft Law on making amendments to RA law on public organizations circumscribed NGO’s freedom and exerted pressure on NGOs.
"There is an impression that we have two different realities. Different laws are written, bills drafted, decisions made that solve some minor issues, but there is no adequate response to the prevalent human rights violations and the reality of which our NGOs voice either from the perspective of legislation or legal practice. Every year we have stably bad situation,”- mentioned Sona Ayvazyan.
