On March 19, 2014 Heriknaz Tigranyan, Legal Adviser of Transparency International Anticorruption Center participated in a working meeting on “The Guarantees of Trade Unions’ Activity,” organized by NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs.

The aim of this meeting was to discuss with the responsible officials of the sphere the legislative problems, particularly the law “On Trade Unions” and a number of provisions of the Labor Code, which impeded or failed to promote trade unions’ effective activity and find joint solutions for them.

In her opening speech, Committee Chair Elinar Vardanyan thanked the representatives of the sphere for their active cooperation with the Committee and for submitting valuable recommendations. She expressed hope that they would contribute to enhancing effectiveness of the trade unions’ and union of employers’ effectiveness.

The representatives of trade unions, republican union of employers and NGOs made recommendations to the Law “On Trade Unions” and in the Labor Code of Armenia to promote trade unions’ activity enhancement. The recommendations referred to the articles related to the problems raised in labor relations, mechanisms for resolving employee-employer disputes, clarification of collective bargaining, collective agreements and other provisions. The parties presented their remarks, objections and recommendations.

In the end of the meeting the commission chair assured that the submitted recommendations would be discussed in the commission.
