Today is December 9, International Anti-corruption Day as designated by the United Nations General Assembly. This year Armenia's Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perceptions Index score for 2009 dropped, and the country remained in the group of states with rampant corruption among the 180 surveyed countries. Armenia, as perceived by business people and international analysts, is a state where no progress has been made to reduce the level of corruption since 2003.

In June 2009, TI released another research product - Global Corruption Barometer - which revealed that 43% of the Armenians surveyed reported having paid a bribe in the previous 12 months. According to the same source, 48% of respondents assessed the government's actions in tackling corruption "ineffective" despite its anti-corruption initiatives.
